I-285/I-20 West Interchange, P.I. No. 0013918 – DeKalb County, GA

This Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) design-build-finance project consists of reconstructing, expanding, and reconfiguring the western interchange of I-285 and I-20 to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow and safety for all motorists.
The improvements include:

a) Removal of left-hand ramp entrance and exits, improvements to horizontal and vertical alignments, and construction of two-lane ramps where warranted within the interchange.
b) Construction of a westbound collector-distributor (CD) system from the I-285/I-20 West Interchange to Fulton Industrial Boulevard.
c) Construction of additional lanes along I-20 eastbound from Factory Shoals Road east to Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and along I-285 from MLK Jr. Drive north to Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to accommodate interchange improvements.
d) Modification or replacement of bridges within the interchange and along I-20. (22 bridges total)

ICE serves as the Lead Design Consultant, performing overall design management along with roadway, structures, and hydraulic/hydrological design for Segment 2 of the project. ICE’s project-wide services include geotechnical engineering, utility coordination, landscape architecture, pavement design, environmental compliance, and environmental services. ICE is responsible for the supervision and quality of all design work and design processes throughout the duration of the project.
