I-285 Ramps at CR 209 / Riverside Drive, P.I. No. 0010925 – Fulton County, GA

This design-build project consisted of safety improvements to the existing interchange of I-285 at Riverside Drive. The project converted the two existing signalized intersections at each ramp terminal at Riverside Drive with a single lane roundabout. Each approach to the roundabout was widened to two lanes, with one lane entering the roundabout and the other serving as a right-turn lane. The project also included rehabilitation of the existing bridge. The project was approximately 0.5 miles in length and included significant landscaping, hardscaping, and pedestrian lighting, all of which were designed to the City of Sandy Springs standards. The design team incorporated retaining walls along the project to reduce right-of-way impacts to adjacent property owners. Additionally, a five-foot wide sidewalk was added to both sides of the roadway along Riverside Drive within the limits of the project.

ICE served as the Lead Design Consultant responsible for overall design project management, roadway design, bridge design, bridge maintenance repair plans, hydraulic/hydrological design, retaining wall design, and utility coordination.

ICE was awarded the Preconstruction Design Award for an Innovative Solution to a Transportation Problem by the GPTQ in 2017.
