NC-540 (Triangle Expressway SE Extension) – Wake County, NC

This design-build project involved designing and constructing a multi-lane tolled expressway, from south of SR-2542 (Rock Quarry Road) to I-87/US-64/US-264, including new interchanges, roadway widening, and bridge structures to accommodate increased traffic capacity. Key elements included roadway design and construction to establish new expressway lanes with controlled access for improved traffic flow; bridge and structure design, featuring multiple bridges, overpasses, and culverts to ensure seamless connectivity and minimize environmental impact; and traffic management and ITS, incorporating ITS for tolling, traffic monitoring, and safety enhancements. Additionally, the project included drainage and environmental compliance measures, such as stormwater management, erosion control, ecosystem protection, right-of-way acquisition, and utility coordination, to ensure a smooth integration with existing infrastructure while minimizing disruptions.

ICE served as the Lead Design Firm responsible for roadway design, structural design, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic/hydrological design, and traffic control and safety enhancements design.
