State and local officials gathered at the end of January to kick off construction on the $240 million I-26 at I-95 Interchange Improvement Project.
The project consists of reconstructing the existing system interchange at I-26 and I-95. It will include full reconstruction of the current ramps and acceleration and deceleration lane tie-ins with the mainline of I-26 and I-95.
The project also consists of replacing the bridge on Whetsell Pond Road (S-38-1302) over I-26.
Archer Western Construction (AWC) and Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) partnered to form the Design-Build Team, announced as the best value proposer in October 2023.
Construction officially began on January 30, 2024, and officials estimate the project will be completed in the summer of 2027.
